2010 WORLD BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP WILL BE HELD IN TURKEY!

The World Basketball Championship is the most important and the prestigious basketball event. It is played since 1950 amongst the best national teams and basketball players from five continents.

FIBA, as the world governing body for basketball, elects one of the best basketball nations every four years in the world to host the greatest basketball Event. Holding a worldclass resume in hosting international competitions, and succeeding in every category on the court with its significant rise in world basketball since 90’s, Turkey earned the rights to host the respectable Event in 2010.

16th FIBA World Championship will be held between 28 August – 12 September 2010 in Turkey with the participation of best 24 national teams and 288 basketball stars in the cities of Ankara, Antalya, Istanbul, and Izmir.

This outstanding basketball championship will consist of 80 games, and it is expected to reach more than 150 countries and one billion basketball fans. As a result, it will have major contributions to the promotions and popularity of Turkey and development of host cities in terms of infrastructure and basketball legacy.

Hosting the event right after the world’s greatest economies, USA (2002) and Japan (2006), is extremely important for Turkey also from the perspective of international reputation and prestige.

Turkish Basketball Federation, the governing body for basketball, has the mission to grow and broaden the sport across the nation and expertise in organizing national and international basketball events, has set the goal to organize best ever World Championship.
